[i]lukadia: Emilie Autumn and A Cold

I am being kicked around by a badass cold. Hooray for immune-system suppressing medication!

Last night, my new housemates and I went to see Emilie Autumn in MPLS. I had never heard of them and my first exposure was the concert. And what a concert it was! If you don't know what the show is like, just imagine five violently insane corseted pirate lesbians throwing a gothic lolita tea party in a Victorian bordello. Add liberal doses of harpsichord, plastic cutlass fights, and lots and lots of girl on girl action. Back it all with ear-shattering industrial/electronic music. Results: AWESOME.

I was quite impressed by the whole thing. It was campy and hilarious and the music was unusual and good. I was horrified whenever the madwomen started spitting giant clouds of tea into the audience, but the folks who were up front seemed to expect and love it, so I ducked behind a large tall man for shelter and soaked up the experience in a more comfortable, purely metaphorical sense.

HOT. Catch them live, seriously, they're great.

[i]kohikki: I'm feeling much better.

So good, in fact... that I am going to properly redo a meme.

Okay, so the first time I did this one, I went through and carefully, nay painstakingly, picked a song for each and every scene, shaping it to be the perfect accompanying soundtrack for a sort of detective drama -- starring yours truly, of course.

This time, I went through and did it as you're supposed to.

Get out your iTunes, put it on shuffle, and let the good times roll.
The result?

This...

Well, it appears to be a gorgeous assortment of generally appropriate indie tracks (save for BlueCat) that outline a slightly quirky love story. That's what my mind goes to anyway. The battles in there, I imagine could be something like emotional conflicts or such. And "Birth of Child" I consider to just represent a good time or new opportunity. I sort of love this outcome. :D
I think the ending song in particular is very appropriate how it builds as it progresses and the overall feel of the track.
I imagine with that song, the final scene follows the character who was left with a dead partner now, returning to his or her regular way of life. Maybe looking out the window once before going on with their business wearing a slightly wistful but otherwise content expression. The scene would start out darkly, but as the song and the scene progresses, they would leave their bedroom and go out into the world, where the camera would follow the character walking. They would pass some small item of insignificance that made an appearance in the beginning of the film stare at it for a second, but continue walking. The camera pans up on the item, whatever it is and fades to black.
The end. :3

[i]blasphemina: (no subject)

I hate when people want to order from me because they think since I'm a Western designer I should and will charge significantly less on something they found on a site in japan. And that I'll make them a replica. And they say it as though they are doing ME a favor by giving me this pittance.

Offensive.

If you want that, find a small town seamstress. I may not be a big time red carpet designer, but I'm a professional and I've worked my ass off for YEARS to be where I am. Would someone ask any other established designer to make them a replica of someone else's garment for half price-1/3?

I doubt it.

[i]electra_torch: having confidence is weird

Been a while since I did an actual post so here we go...

Work has been going well. I got my first full paycheck last week which was quite nice. It's also still a completely awesome feeling to know that the teachers I work for think I'm awesome.

School has been going well too. I'm still doing coding and while the book is frustrating and makes thing stupidly complicated... the practice where I'm actually coding is great. I only have a few chapters left and then I'll be on to transcription (I'm hoping to get there by Thanksgiving break.)

Tied in with school is BPA... I presided over our second official meeting and I think I did an awesome job. I'm lucky to have really awesome Vice-Presidents (high school and adult) who are willing to get involved. Talk is already turning to state competition in the spring. I know that three of us who were on our administrative support team are talking about putting it back together which I'm all for. We have someone who would make a really awesome fourth too. In terms of single events I think I might go for something medical related, either office procedures or transcription. Not sure which.

A group of us are also planning on doing the Torch Awards this year. Basically you just do things in your BPA chapter and your community and you get points for each thing you did and if you get so many points in each category you're recognized at local, regional, state, and national levels. It'd be another way to get a ticket to Nationals without winning if we can get the points in each category. The only downside is that we'd have to pay for everything ourselves, but if a group of us qualify then we will find a way to go.

Speaking of other things... fuck you baseball for preempting House for two weeks.

Also this is insanely fucking cute.

It's not cute enough to play 300+ bucks for even with the entire catalog on it. But still... fucking adorable looking. They should just sell it as a USB separately. I'd buy it.
